The ЗИЛ-4331 is a Soviet and Russian heavy-duty truck of the fourth (after-Fiat 10 HP light truck, Fiat 12 HP light truck, Fiat 24-32 HP light truck, Fiat 28-40 HP light truck, AMO Ф-15, AMO-2, AMO-3, ЗИC-5, ЗИC-5V, ЗИC-15, ЗИC-150, ЗИЛ-164, ЗИЛ-130 (1962-1977), and ЗИЛ-130 (1977–1988))-generation family, produced at the Likhachev Plant. Replaced the family of models of the previous generation ЗИЛ-130 (431410) (however, outside the ЗИЛ-130 continued to be produced until 2012). Since this generation, ЗИЛ has been transferring its cars to work on diesel fuel, The ЗИЛ-4331 competed against the ГАЗ-3307/3309, Jelcz 300, Star 28/29, IFA L60, Tatra 148, and the Škoda 706 RT/MT.
Description[]
At the Likhachev Plant, the ЗИЛ-4331 model was developed in the 1970s under the designation ЗИЛ-169. The first prototypes were ready already in 1976 and were shown to L.I. Brezhnev during his visit to the plant in the same year.
The car was supposed to become the founder of a new, diesel line of ЗИЛ trucks. It was planned to install a ЗИЛ-645 naturally-aspirated diesel engine with volume-film mixture formation and a power of 185 hp. which was a modified version of the one used in the ЗИЛ-114, In the early 1980s, This engine was fitted with a synchromesh, manual 9-speed gearbox. The wings, hood and radiator trim were combined into one large unit, folding forward. In the original design of the cabin, low-beam headlights were installed on a hinged hood, but during testing, a drawback of this design was revealed - when driving over uneven surfaces, the hood moved and the light from the headlights “walked” along the road. Subsequently, the headlights were moved to a steel bumper and the problem was eliminated.
In the 1980s, in accordance with the industry standard OH 025 270-66, the machine received a new index ЗИЛ-4331 and was refined until 1985. Due to financial difficulties, preparations for mass production were delayed. In 1987, the car was forced onto the production line with an outdated “V”-shaped, 8-cylinder gasoline engine ЗИЛ-508.10 of the previous generation with a power of 150 hp. With. and a 5-speed gearbox. This modification received the index ЗИЛ-433110. The diesel version with the ЗИЛ-645 engine - ЗИЛ-433100 appeared a little later in the same year. Their production continued until 2003.
In 1993, the ЗИЛ-433360 car was released - a further development of the ЗИЛ-431410 with a new 4331 cab and a ЗИЛ-508.10 gasoline engine, then a similar ЗИЛ-432900 with a turbodiesel of tractor origin MMZ D-245.20 with a power of 108 hp. With. These vehicles were the most popular in the ЗИЛ-4331 line. Since 2003, they began to be equipped with gasoline and diesel engines of high environmental classes Euro-2; Euro-3 (car brands ЗИЛ-433362 and ЗИЛ-432932). Their production was discontinued in 2014.
In September 2016, the last vehicle was produced at the Likhachev Plant; it was a truck model ЗИЛ-43276T - essentially a modified ЗИЛ-4331.
