The 2012 Volkswagen Passat (formerly known as the Volkswagen New Midsize Sedan, or NMS while under development) is a sedan automobile which replaces the previous-generation Passat B6 in the mid-size car markets in China and North America. In the North American market, the vehicle was designed to compete against the dominance of Japanese and Korean imported cars. The Passat NMS will not be exported to Europe, where the Passat B7 model is sold instead.
The Passat NMS was officially announced in January 2011. It will be built at the Volkswagen Chattanooga Assembly Plant, and will be available later in 2011, with prices starting at $20,000.
