Eighth Generation (2020-Current)[]
After a short hiatus of Golf R production, Volkswagen Released the MK8 Golf R. The MK8 Golf R had a 2.0-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine (TSI) producing 320 PS (235 kW; 315 hp) and 420 N⋅m (310 lbf⋅ft). It is offered with either the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic globally or the six-speed manual (For US and Canadian markets only) and is available both as a hatch or an estate.
Seventh Generation (2014-2018)[]
The MK7 Volkswagen Golf R is powered by a newly-developed version of the 1,984 cc turbocharged EA888 petrol FSI inline -four engine which is also the engine of the MK7 Golf GTI and the 2014 Audi S3 but this time, the engine produced 228 kW (306 HP; 310 PS). Just like the Golf GTI, the Golf R can also be built in 2-door or 4-door form.
The MK7.5 Golf R is the facelifted version of the MK7 Golf R.
