Recent Changes[]

  • For MY2009, Suzuki of Netherlands has created a special styling package for the city car called GT Sport Package. The package essentially consists of black matted plastic front bumper moldings, side skirts, door and rocker panel moldings, a roof spoiler, a faux diffuser, wheel arch extensions and a panel over the rear license plate intended to make the car more "butch" and aggressive in appearance. It's only available for buyers in the Netherlands and will cost €1,199. A set of 16-inch lightweight alloys dressed in 195/50 R16 Yokohama rubber adds another €1,000.[1] Maruti Suzuki launched Splash in India after branding it as Ritz in May 2009 [1]

Maruti Ritz in India[]

Suzuki Splash is known as Maruti Ritz in the Indian auto market. The car is positioned in the premium A2 market segment, which includes its compact offerings such as Maruti Suzuki Alto, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Maruti Zen and the newly-launched A-Star. As the competitor Hyundai has launched their Hyundai i10 model in the Indian market, now it is the turn of market leaders Maruti Suzuki to respond with a brand new vehicle for the Indian auto market.

The engineers from Maruti Suzuki worked at close quarters with their Japanese counterparts in the development of the Maruti Ritz, much like that for the A-Star. Maruti Udyog Limited seems to be going the complete distance to ensure that the Ritz manages to make an impact on the cut-throat A2 hatchback space.

The all new Maruti Ritz is surely a head turner with ultimate design and mind blowing style, with technology and power attached to it. Ritz is a car with car some added firepower are some interesting new tech-features that will help the Maruti Ritz distinguish itself from the competition. The car offers great and elegant look with world class technology and advanced features that delivers great performance and is very economical to run on roads.

Engine and Transmission[]

In the Indian auto market, Maruti Ritz comes in two version - Petrol and Diesel. The 1.2 L, K-12 series petrol engine is endowed with many highly advanced features that offer ultimate and mind blowing performance of the car. The engine has MPFI (Multi Point Fuel Injection) supply system that offers very great performance and flatter torque for the car. This K series engine of Maruti Swift Dzire has BS IV complaint emission level that makes the car greener and eco friendly. The K-12 engine of Maruti Ritz is endowed with 5 Speed Manual Transmission Gearbox, with synchromesh in all gears and one reverse. The highly advanced engine of Maruti Ritz delivers an impressive maximum power of 85 PS at 6000 rpm and a torque of 113 Nm at 4500 rpm.

Maruti Ritz diesel version is also very efficient and offers greater power and torque. The diesel engine of Maruti Ritz is packed with 1.3 L, 1248 cc displacement. The DDiS engine is endowed with superior CRDI fuel injection system with turbocharger and inter-cooler combination that offers efficient combustion and higher torque and the DOHC (Double Over Head Camshaft) packed engine of Maruti Ritz produces lesser vibration and noise even at high speed and is highly fuel efficient engine. This advanced DDiS engine also offers a maximum power of 75 PS at 4000 rpm and a torque of 190 Nm at 2000 rpm.

Performance and Mileage

Ritz diesel has an impeccable mid-range punch makes you feel more energetic on the road, and you can overtake with confidence. However, Maruti Ritzpetrol scores over the diesel in performance, it reaches 100kmph in 14 seconds compared to 15s for diesel. Though our test drive landscape did not allowed us to test the top speed, we managed to push the Ritz petrol to 140kmph and diesel to 130kmph. As per the CMVR (Central Motor Vehicle Rules) , Ritz petrol delivers a mileage of 17.7 kmpl and Ritz diesel an impressive 21.1 kmpl. These figures are taken under standard conditions and the real figure would be lower than this

Handling

Ritz doesn’t quite have the Swift’s agile responses. But it surprised us with its better than expected handling chracteristics. The steering in the Ritz petrol is precise and light but few times it lacks the natural feel of the road. On the other hand, the heavier diesel engine puts up extra weight and calls for firmer front suspension. This results in natural feeling steer and tells you how much grip is left at the front wheels. But on the downside, the diesel Ritz thuds into sharp bumps that the petrol-engined cars soak up. Both the Ritz are easy to thread through town traffic, simple to park and perfectly competent and comfortable on country roads. On hard cornering, there is a discernible body roll but it remains safe and friendly around corners. Brake pedal is well weighed and brakes offer a firm and progressive feel. Except the top end Zxi petrol variant which rides on larger 185/70 R 14 tyres, all the variants of Maruti Ritz Review uses 165/80.
