The Mazda Kabura concept car is a small, sporty coupe that incorporates Mazda's "Zoom-Zoom" philosophy. The Kabura name comes from a Japanese word that means first arrow into battle, and this name refers to Mazda's willingness to pursue new and interesting ideas.

The vehicle is rumored to be a possible forebear to a new MX-3 or RX-3, but as of 2007 Mazda has not announced a production version of the Kabura.

Unique Attributes[]

  • The Kabura features a unique 3+1 seating arrangement, with a driver's seat on the left side and a jump seat behind the driver. On the passenger side, the front passenger seat is moved forward six inches to allow approximately equal legroom for the second passenger seat placed behind the first.
  • The back window is actually a two-piece hatch. The upper part of the hatch can be raised by electric motors and acts as a roof spoiler. It also has a solar cell that helps control temperature and recharges the battery. The lower, larger part of the glass hatch is side-hinged and provides access to the cargo compartment.
  • The overhead glass panels, which allow in light and make the vehicle feel more roomy, have adjustable tinting and the opacity can be changed from clear to opaque.
  • The right side has a small, extra door to aid ingress and egress of passengers. The door slides into the B-pillar with the touch of a button.
