The 2007 CX-7 is a compact crossover SUV model from Mazda, the production version of the MX-Crossport concept car. The CX-7 is built in Hiroshima, Japan, starting in early 2006. The CX-7 was shown publicly for the first time at the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show in January. Production officially began on February 20 at Mazda's Ujina #2 factory in Hiroshima. The CX-7 goes on sale in spring 2006 as a 2007 model.
The CX-7 rides on an all-new platform instead of sharing the Ford/Mazda CD3 platform used by the larger Mazda CX-9/Ford Edge/Lincoln MKX crossovers as well as the Mazda6. It uses suspension components from the Mazda3 and Mazda5 which have been beefed up and recalibrated. Many of the all wheel drive components come from the Mazdaspeed 6, as does its turbocharged engine. The only available transmission will be a 6-speed automatic. The CX-7 will slot between the Tribute and CX-9.
Power comes from the same 2.3 L straight-4 MZR engine used in the Mazdaspeed 6, and tuned to produce 244 hp (182 kW)at 5000 RPM and 258 ft·lbf (350 N·m) of torque at a low 2500 rpm. 99 percent of the maximum torque is available to 5000 rpm.
The CX-7 features fully independent suspension, four-wheel ventilated disc brakes with standard anti-lock brakes, stability control and traction control, and a choice of either front wheel drive or Mazda's Active Torque-Split all wheel drive system. With the Active Torque-Split system, two computer-controlled magnetic clutches feed up to 50 percent of the engine's torque to the rear wheels. The Mazda CX-7 is estimated to deliver over 23 mpg (10.2 L/100 km) in combined driving.
- Apart from the all-new 2.5 litre engine, Australian bound CX-7s also get the new turbo diesel engine used in diesel Mazda3 and 6 models but it will be linked with a 6 speed manual.
- For MY 2010, Mazda gave the the CX-7 its first mid-cycle facelift to keep the styling in line with Mazda's new Nagare-inspired corporate face. It also gets a new 2.5-liter normally-aspirated I-4 producing 161 horsepower @ 6000 rpm and 161 lb-ft. of torque @ 3500 rpm as well as new gauges, a 4.1-inch color TFT information display, an available blind-spot monitoring system, three-position seat memory for the driver's seat (and a power backrest for the passenger seat), and Bluetooth for both phones and audio.

Current Generation: (2010–present)Edit
The second generation (more a mid-life update) CX-7 gained a bigger 2.5L MZR engine.
First Generation/Origins (2007–2009)Edit
It's turbocharged engine is powerful yet responsive. Power goes up to 175 kW @ 5000 RPM while torque peaks out at 350 Nm @ 2500 RPM. Mazda believes that the engine is a right choice for the car's size and is better than their V6s because they lack low-end torque.
Australian bound CX-7s get a whole list of features including 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Antilock Brakes, 18 inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, power windows and mirrors, trip computer, MP3 sound system and more.
The CX-7 was destined for North America and is currently sold in Australia in two trim levels. A base model and the Luxury model.
