The Maruti Alto is a city car manufactured by Maruti Suzuki in India. It was launched in the local Indian market on September 27, 2000 although the Maruti Alto brand name was very successfully being used to export the Maruti Zen to Europe from India since around 1994 having captured over 40% market share in Belgium and 33% in Netherlands by 1998. It is the best-selling hatchback in India. Since 2006, It is India's largest selling car and crossed the 1 million production figure in February 2008 becoming the 3rd Maruti model to cross the million mark in India after Maruti 800 and Maruti Omni and 4th overall when taking the Hyundai Santro into account. Besides being exported to Europe from 1994-2004, it has also been exported to several other countries.

Recent Changes[]
July 23, 2010 – Maruti is planning to launch the new version of its most popular car Maruti Alto in the Indian auto market in August 2010. The new Maruti Alto will be equipped with the company’s popular 1.0L, K-series petrol engine which is well known for excellent fuel efficiency and currently powers the A-Star and Maruti Wagon-R. This 1.0L, K10 engine delivers 68PS of maximum power at 6200rpm with 90Nm of maximum torque at 3200rpm. The company’s senior official said that they have no plans to discontinue the previous version with the launch of Maruti Alto.
April, 2010 - Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has recently projected the new version of company's most popular and hot selling Maruti Alto. As BS IV emission norms came into force in all metro cities from April 1, 2010, Maruti Alto, 800 and Omni have been phased out from these cities. Now the company has launched the newer version of Alto with the same 0.8L, 796cc petrol engine delivering 47 PS of maximum power. The new Maruti Alto offers excellent mileage of 19.73kmpl which is certified by the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India).
Maruti is going to replace the engine model for Alto before Bharat Stage IV (BS IV) emissions comes into place from April 2010 [1]

Maruti Alto uses an 800 cc, 3 cylinder engine has multi point fuel injection and produces 47 bhp at 6000 rpm and 62 Nm at 3000 rpm. As a basic transport in India, this is satisfying inside the city. The efficient engine returns 12.5 kpl in the city and 17.2 kpl in the highway. This is another key to the Alto’s success.
Recently Maruti introduced Alto k10 a powerful version of maruti Alto. Maruti Alto k10. The Alto K10 produces 68PS of maximum power at 6200rpm and 90Nm of maximum torque at 3500rpm.
