The Lamborguini Stella is a concept car which was to be finished and then presented at the 2000 Paris Auto Show.
Name[]
- The name Stella in Italian means "Star".
History[]
After the takeover of the car company by the Volkswagen concern, many things changed. Cars that were soon to go into production were to be reworked and completely redesigned. One such was Cala, whose redesigned curves were referred to as the Stella concept.
The Lamborghini Stella was supposed to be a direct competitor to the Ferrari 360 Modena and was supposed to be ready in October of 2000. But as we all know, a car that rivaled the Ferrari 360 Modena wasn't presented until 2003. Moreover, it had a different design.
Immediately after the takeover of Lamborghini, many fans were worried that Lamborghini would become just a "re-engineered" Audi, that most of the parts would be the same except for the bodywork.
Ferdinand Piech calmed the bad tongues, he claimed that Lamborghini would not take over the parts and would go his own way. A few months later, however, he changed his mind, and already on the first sketches of Stella, it was expected that he would adopt some design solutions from Audi.
Audi could offer engines, an eight-cylinder or a ten-cylinder was expected. It is said that the use of an eight-cylinder engine from an old Lamborghini Jalpa, which at that time had already had its best years behind it, was considered for a while.
The first drawing (a brown car) in 1998 showed large side intakes, triangular headlights and an adjustable rear spoiler. In general, the whole concept is similar to the future Gallardo, so we can say that its basic drawings were already created in 1998.
The second design moved the curve more towards the then planned Diablo successor – the P147 project. But looking at this proposal, it turned out to be a step backwards. A small Lamborghini has never looked like this.
