The Lamborghini Silhouette P300 (also known as the Urraco Silhouette) was a mid-engine sports car made in small numbers by Lamborghini between 1976 and 1979. The Silhouette began as a styling exercise by noted Italian Carrozzeria Bertone. It was based on the earlier Lamborghini Urraco but was distinguished from the Uracco by more angular styling. The Silhouette was the first Lamborghini to employ a targa top roof. The Silhouette later evolved into the similar looking but more successful Lamborghini Jalpa. 54 cars were built. The car had a 3 litre V8 engine mounted transversely behind the driver. Only 31 of these cars are known to remain.
Name[]
In the history of Lamborghini, it was the second model that was not based on the use of bullfighting to define its nomenclature, after the Countach. In this case, the French word "Silhouette" was used.
Development and Design[]
In the mid-1970s, Lamborghini was not in very good financial condition, since the production of the previous model, the Lamborghini Urraco, had been very expensive, and had not sold enough, so the company could not create a model totally new. The only thing he could do was develop the Urraco and turn it into another car. In this way, the Silhouette (which began as a design trial by the Italian company Bertone) was based on the Urraco, and was the evolution of the P300 version of said model. Regarding the Urraco, the main difference from the Silhouette is the body, which has a more angular design and was transformed from a coupe to a targa, with the consequent redesign of the interior and the elimination of the rear seats, converting the vehicle into a two-seater. It was built on a longer chassis than that of the Urraco, so that the roof could fit. It was finally presented to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1976. The Silhouette was the first Lamborghini model to employ a targa roof, which has a removable panel.

Engine and motors[]
The Silhouette has a 16-valve, double overhead camshaft 3-liter V8 engine, which is mounted transversely behind the driver. This engine has a block made of aluminum and light alloy, and can develop a maximum power of 260 HP (191 kW). The gearbox is manual, with five speeds. The clutch is hydraulic, with a disc diameter of 241 mm.
