The Lamborghini Reventón is a supercar that debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show.[1] It was the most powerful and expensive Lamborghini at the time, costing one million euro.[2] The official press release states that only 20 will be built, but it was later reported that the total number would be 21.[3] The exterior styling was inspired by the F-22 Raptor.[1] Although the exterior is partially new, almost the entire mechanics (including the engine) are taken directly from the Murciélago LP640.[4]

Initial reports suggest that the 6.5 litre V12 may receive a power boost of approximately 15 kilowatts (20 horsepower), bringing the new ouput close to 490 kW (660 horsepower).[4][2] In spite of this, and the car's carbon fibre components, the Reventón accelerates to 100 km/h (62 mph) in the same time as the Murciélago LP640 (3.4 seconds).[3]

The instrument panel in the Reventón comprises of three TFT liquid crystal displays (LCDs) with two different display modes. The instruments are housed in a structure milled from a solid aluminum block, protected by a carbon fiber casing. The G-Force-Meter is completely new and it is one of the talking points of the Reventón. It displays the dynamic drive forces, longitudinal acceleration during acceleration and braking, as well as transversal acceleration around bends. These forces are represented by the movement of an indicator on a graduated 3D grid depending on the direction and intensity of the acceleration. Formula One teams also use a similar device to analyse dynamic forces.

By simply pressing a button, the driver can switch to the second, quasi-analogical display, where there are the usual circular instruments; speedometer and tachometer. The G-Force-Meter still remains at the centre of this display mode.

Lamborghini has also picked up some of parent company Audi's design language. For the first time, Lamborghini incorporated daylight running lights with the headlamps of the Reventón. Seven Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) at each headlamps flank the Bi-Xenon main beam and they stay lit whenever the car is in movement. Due to the high temperatures in the rear lower part of the car, special heatproof LEDs are used for the indicator and hazard lights, stoplights and rear lights with a triple arrow optical effect.

Name[]

The Reventón is named after a fighting bull according to Lamborghini tradition. The car's namesake, owned by the Don Rodriguez family, is best known for killing famed bullfighter Felix Guzman in 1943. [5] Reventón also means "explosion/explodes" in Spanish.

Recent Changes[]

  • The 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show will play host to the public debut of the Reventón Roadster. Like its coupe sibling, production is highly limited and exclusive to 15 units. Another similarity is the F-22 Raptor inspired styling draped over the Murcielago chassis. It is rumoured that the topless raging bull will feature the Murcie LP670-4 SV 670 hp version of the 6.5 litre V12 rather than the modified 650 hp LP640-sourced mill seen in the hardtop model. Expect the price to top out at 1.2 million Euros ($1,750,000 USD) as before. [1][2][3]

Performance[]

The Lamborghini can go from 0-62 (100 km) in 3.2 seconds and is expected to reach 220 mph (352 km/h)

Overview[]

Interior[]

The instrument panel in the Reventón consists of three TFT liquid crystal displays (LCDs) with two different display modes. The instruments are housed in a structure milled from a solid aluminum block, protected by a carbon-fiber casing. The car's instrumentation includes a "g-force-meter" which displays the magnitude and direction of the g-forces acting upon the car. The seats of the Reventón are made from black leather and brown Alcantara.

Exterior[]

The Reventón features an all-new carbon-fiber exterior. All cars have the same exterior color, described as "mid opaque grey without the usual shine."

It is the first Lamborghini automobile to incorporate daytime running lamps into the headlamps. Seven light-emitting diodes (LED) at each headlamp flank the bi-xenon main beam and stay lit whenever the car is in motion. Due to the high temperatures in the rear lower part of the car, special heatproof LEDs are used for the indicator and hazard lights, stoplights, and rear lights with a triple arrow optical effect. The Reventon's exterior design created the basis for the company's current flagship, the Aventador. The active rear wing and the active air intakes integrated into the car's shoulders are electronically controlled, deploying automatically only at high speeds in an effort to maximize both aerodynamic and cooling efficiency.

Performance[]

The engine is the same unit used in the Murciélago LP 640, a 6,496 cc (6.5 L; 396.4 cu in) V12, now upgraded to 650 PS (641 hp; 478 kW) at 8,000 rpm and 660 N⋅m (487 lb⋅ft) of torque at 6,000 rpm. The car accelerates from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.4 seconds and can attain a maximum speed of over 340 km/h (211 mph).

Reventón Roadster[]

A roadster variant of the Reventón was unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. The roadster uses the engine used in the Murciélago LP 670–4 Super Veloce. In June 2009, Autocar published a report saying that potential buyers have been shown the car, although a Lamborghini spokesman told the publication that reports of the car were "just speculation". Production was set for a run of 15 units, with a MSRP of €1,100,000. The actual price, however, increased twofold to around US$2,100,000, due to high demand. The Reventón Roadster has more power than its coupe counterpart, at 670 PS (661 hp; 493 kW) at 8,000 rpm, but the same level of torque and a slightly lower top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h). This is due to the chassis reinforcing components to compensate for the loss of the roof that add 25 kg (55 lb) to the weight of the car. 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration reportedly remains the same at 3.4 seconds. The car also features deployable roll hoops which quickly extend to protect the car's occupants in the event of a rollover.

Worldwide[]

Of the original 20 coupe's, 10 were delivered to the United States, seven to Europe, one to Canada, and two to Asia.

Design quirks and oddities[]

  • The vehicle's styling is said to have been inspired by the F-22 Raptor fighter jet.
  • The name comes from a bull that killed toreador Felix Guzman in 1943.
