The Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera was a limited edition version of Lamborghini Gallardo. Superleggera means "super lightweight".This special edition supercar was made to compete with the other special edition supercars such as the F430 Scuderia and Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
Second Generation (LP570-4)[]
In March 2010, Lamborghini announced the release of the LP 570-4 Superleggera - a lightweight and more powerful version of the Gallardo LP 560-4.Lamborghini decided to name it Superleggera rather than SuperVeloce. While the previous Superleggera is a lighter weight version of standard Gallardo, the new one isn't just lighter than the standard Gallardo LP560-4,but also more powerful.Carbon fiber is used extensively inside and out to reduce weight to only 2,954 lb (1,340 kg) enough to make the LP 570-4 the lightest road-going Lamborghini in the range. The 5.2-liter V10 engine produces 570 horsepower, and can travel from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.4 seconds, up to a 202 mph (325 km/h) top speed.
First Generation[]
Starting with the already exhilarating Gallardo coupe, Lamborghini chucks the rear diffuser, the underbody tray, the rearview-mirror housings, the interior door panels, the central tunnel, and the engine cover and replaces them all with carbon-fiber copies of the old panels for a reduction of 154 pounds (About 70 kilograms), bringing the weight down into the 3370-pound (1360-kilogram) neighborhood.
Then, compounding this weight-loss program, the intake and exhaust systems are retuned, and the ECU is reprogrammed to stir up 10 more horsepower, for a total of 523. Lamborghini claims these upgrades will spit a Superleggera to 62mph (100km/h) in 3.8 seconds, 0.3 second quicker than the last Gallardo coupe we tested. Lamborghini’s paddle-shifted e-gear six-speed transmission (usually a $10,000 option) comes standard in the Superleggera. Get in line now. This special-edition Lambo will be available in March 2007 and will certainly cost a significant chunk more than the Gallardo’s already steep $175,000 base price. The full lot of ‘07s already sold out at $220,300 apiece, a premium of $45,300 over the base Gallardo.
