The Lamborghini Egoista is a concept carunveiled by Lamborghini for the company's 50th Anniversary. The fully functioning model is based on the Gallardo. It features a mid-mounted 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine that produces 591 horsepower (600 metric horsepower) and 570 kgf.m sent to all four wheels through a six-speed sequential automatic transmission.
The Lamborghini Egoista has a unique one-seat cockpit, which is similar to that of a modern fighter jet, and has a canopy door that is completely removable. The steering wheel must be removed to enter and exit the vehicle. An Egoista literally means "selfish". According to the model's designer Walter de Silva, the Egoista "represents hedonism taken to the extreme."
The unique exterior of the Lamborghini Egoista is meant to resemble a bull ready to charge if looked at from the side. The car's lighting is designed to resemble an aircraft's, with LED clearance lights, white lights on the front and red lights on the rear, which is left open to show the car's powerful machinery. The bodywork consists of active aerodynamic panels that raise and lower for optimum downforce and stability. The body of the car is made from a special "antiradar material", and the orange glass is anti-glare.
- Exterior
Aviation actually had a strong influence on the car's design; in particular, the Apache helicopter. The cockpit was designed to resemble the Apache's ejectable one. "The cockpit, made completely of carbon fibre and aluminium, represents a sort of survival cell, allowing the driver to isolate and protect themselves from external elements".
Inside the cockpit is a racing seat with a four-point seatbelt, airbags and a minimal instrument panel, with a jet-fighter-like head-up display. In order to get in and out, the driver has to remove the steering wheel and climb over the side.
- Interior
The car came with a whopping price tag of $117 million, making it the most expensive Lamborghini ever built. However, Lamborghini decided to keep it for itself.
Just a year after the official reveal, the Italians decided to put the one-of-a-kind supercar on permanent display at the brand's museum in Sant'Agata Bolognese. It was only ever taken out for special events. It was transported to its destination, displayed and transported back to the museum.
It is the only one of its kind in the world, so it had to be protected as a treasure. However, it did not spend much time in the museum. Eventually, it was purchased by a private collector, whose name remained secret, and was taken to an undisclosed location. No one has seen it since.
