The Honda SSM concept which was introduced at the 1995 Tokyo Motor Show was a preview of the upcoming Honda S2000 which was released a few years later. The SSM (Sports Study Model) was highly praised at its launch and it generated a significant amount of interest from driving enthusiasts eager to try out an all-new front engine, RWD roadster from the same company which brought the world the NSX. The drivetrain of the Honda SSM concept featured a 2.0 litre, 5-cylinder VTEC engine and a 5-speed semiautomatic gearbox. The SSM was one of the first road cars - once it went into the production - to use a prominent starter button to bring the engine to life, and also inject some additional race-inspired drama into the cockpit.
