Introduced in 1984 the VK series of Commodore was the last evolution of the "Classic" Commodore body style, the other major change this model was the new designations for the different trim levels with the SL/X and SL/E variants dropped and replaced with the Berlina and Calais models and the addition of an Executive model that was aimed primarily at the Fleet market.

See Autopedia's comprehensive Holden VK Commodore Review.

Design Changes[]

Design changes from the previous model included replacing the previous models 'eggshell" and 'slat style radiator grill with a three louver style polypropylene one, the addition of 1/4 glass windows behind each 'C' pillar to create a "glass house" style cabin and the replacement of the old style chrome bumper bars with modern polypropylene bumper bars. The interior was left largely unchanged save for replacing several foam and vinyl dash trim pieces with more rigid plastic components while the Calais model was also equipped with a unique digital gauge cluster.
