The Ferrari SF15-T[3] is a Formula One racing car which Ferrari is using to compete in the 2015 Formula One season. It is being driven by Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen. The SF15-T was launched on 30 January 2015.[2][4]
Carrying over his tradition from Red Bull and Toro Rosso, Vettel named his SF15-T "Eva" for the 2015 season.[5]
Season resume[]
This car makes Scuderia Ferrari the second force on the field behind Mercedes Grand Prix . Sebastian Vettel is the only driver to beat the Silver Arrows during the season, winning in Malaysia , Hungary and Singapore (where he secures the only pole position not achieved by Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg ), accumulates thirteen podiums and finished third in the drivers' classification, ahead of his teammate Kimi Raikkonen who obtained three podiums and finished fourteen times in the points.
Development[]
The Ferrari SF15-T is distinguished in particular by its nose, which is long and plunging like the McLaren MP4-30 , but with flat attachment points. The front wing uses eight elements on its outer edges, with rather uniform planes. The Italian single-seater differs from all its competitors by its tie-rod suspensions which offer aerodynamic benefits, while taking up the design of the front lower suspension arms of the 2014 Mercedes AMG F1 W05 . The main air intake of the SF15-T is completed by another, below, as on the F14 T.
Concerning the rear of the single-seater, James Allison, Ferrari's technical director, explains that all the components have been housed "in a more compact volume under the bodywork" , following research in the wind tunnel and at the design office of the team, in order to build radiators which allow more cooling than on the F14 T, in order to be able to "tighten the rear of the car even more". The rear wing is supported by a thin swan's neck central pillar. The SF15-T innovates by featuring horizontal incisions in the side panels of the rear wing, the purpose being to evacuate the air behind the rear wheels in order to reduce drag and optimize the depression behind the diffuser, whose flare extracts maximum airflow under the flat bottom .
James Allison talks about the silhouette of the single-seaters for the 2015 season: "All the cars on the grid in 2015 are going to look more attractive, especially at the front, at the level of the nose: after trying for a few years, I think we finally have found a regulation that gets what we were looking for from a safety standpoint, and that doesn't create the unsightly shapes we've seen in recent seasons”
