Main Competitors[]
One of the Xenia’s closest competitors in terms of pricing is the Hyundai i10, which is not a family car like the Xenia, the i10 can be described as its competitor in terms of price rather than segment. It is still more competitive than city cars as it is a 7 seater with adequate space for Asian size. However, in 2020, another competitor, the Honda Brio, defeated the Xenia and the Avanza as the best-selling car in Indonesia.

Current Generation: (2021–present W100 series)[]
The third-generation Avanza was launched on 10 November 2021. Departing from the previous generations' rear-wheel drive layout, it is based on the front-wheel drive Daihatsu New Global Architecture, riding on a full monocoque chassis as opposed to the previous "unibody" construction. Development was led by Daihatsu chief engineer Eiji Fujibayashi. Its exterior dimensions are longer by 205 mm (8.1 in) and wider by 70 mm (2.8 in), creating a significantly larger footprint compared to the previous generations. The wheelbase has been increased by 95 mm (3.7 in), and the interior space is longer by 160 mm (6.3 in). Despite the longer body, its turning radius only slightly increased to 4.9 m (16.1 ft) and its weight is claimed to decrease by around 45 kg (99 lb).
The 1.3-litre 1NR-VE and the 1.5-litre 2NR-VE engines received upgrades which increased their outputs by 1.5 kW (2 hp; 2 PS). A split-gear CVT system called the "Dual-Mode CVT" (D-CVT) developed by Daihatsu has been adopted for automatic transmission models.
Fourth generation (2011–2019 F650 series)[]
In January 2019, the Xenia received its second facelift. Like the Avanza, it consists of an updated front fascia with LED reflector headlights, side mirrors, and rear fascia. Other changes includes digital air conditioner, auto retractable mirrors and revised suspension tunings. The keyless entry system with push start/stop engine button is not available on the Xenia. Alloy wheels were standard in the lineup. For the first time, the Xenia received a 1.5-litre 2NR-VE Dual VVT-i engine option, exclusive to the R Deluxe variant
Third generation (2008-2011 F600 series)[]
Front grille has been restyled to make it look more modern and dynamic. Bumper was also replaced with the new one.The rear lights have more 3D design, with the round parts of the lights getting thicker. Interior color is now beige rather than black. The Xenia and Avanza have different bumpers ,different chrome accents, and slightly different interior detailings.
Second generation (2006-2008 F600 series)[]
Toyota Astra Motor decided to make the new generation of Avanza/Xenia to make it still competitive to the segment in 2006. The second generation has a restyled grille and bumpers which looks more propotional. The stiff suspension was replaced with the softer one. Rear lights are also redesigned for better looks. So far, people like the new change. The second generation of Avanza has different features from Xenia. There is also a small difference in the interior.
First Generation/Origins (2003-2006 F600 series)[]
The first generation of Avanza and Xenia were introduced at the same time in 2003. The early Xenia has no differences with Avanza. However, the Avanza is more expensive because Toyota brand has higher prestige level than Daihatsu. The first generation of Avanza/Xenia has criticism about the stiff suspension. However, Toyota Astra remade the suspension in the newer generation of Avanza/Xenia.
Worldwide[]
The vehicle is sold in Japan as the Toyota Avanza.
Design quirks and oddities[]
It is one of the cheapest MPV in Indonesia that you can afford today. Although it's a compact MPV, the third row seats is very spacious for its size. The compact width can be a benefit when cruising around rural areas which have tight roads. However, the Honda Brio is more recommended due to advanced safety features and much cheaper price.
Awards[]
Since 2008, the Xenia was one of the best selling cars in Indonesia due to its relatively low pricing and high affordability. However, with the introduction of the new Honda Brio, the Xenia has lost its spot as the best-selling vehicle in Indonesia, due to the Brio’s advanced safety features, as well as a way cheaper price compared to the Xenia. As of 2020, the current generation Xenia is an extremely rare sight, even at the time of its introduction in 2021. The Xenia is very rarely, if ever, seen in Indonesia.
As of 2020, the Xenia’s sales have gone downhill.
