In addition to a profile optimizing the volume, in particular at the rear but not the trunk (Cx of 0.28 for the 5-door version), new features appear such as its fixed-hub steering wheel. A lot of information is displayed in the middle of the dashboard in pure minivan style, which does not appeal to lovers of coupes (3 doors). The liquid crystal tachometer at Citroën can remind that of the BX DIGIT, Renault has used this process much more. The digital tachometer, placed in the driver's axis, turns red as it approaches maximum speed.

The 4-speed automatic transmission is first available on petrol versions only, in 1.6-liter VTI 120 hp on the 3 and 5-door versions as well as with the 1.6 THP 140/150 hp in the 5-door version. It also becomes available on the HDi diesel versions during 2006. The C4 1.6 HDi 110 introduces a new six-speed robotic gearbox (called BMP6 for Manually Controlled Gearbox, number 6 counting the gears available) with a sport mode (0.4 s for an upward gear loading, against 0.8 s normally), more efficient than the SensoDrive but less smooth than the Volkswagen DSG equipped with two clutches (against only one here). The minimum combined consumption is 4.4 l / 100 km.

The C4s are produced in the PSA plant in Mulhouse. Between November 2004 and July 2008, 900,000 copies of the C4 were sold.
