The Chevrolet Bison (and similar GMC General) were heavy-duty Class 8 trucks made by General Motors between 1977 and 1987 (after-Chevrolet Model T, Chevrolet Series M / R / X, Chevrolet Series LM / LO / LP (1927), Chevrolet Series LM / LO / LP (1928), Chevrolet Series LQ / LR / LS (1929), Chevrolet Series LQ / LR / LS (1930), Chevrolet Series LT / M / N (1931), Chevrolet Series LT / M / N (1932), Chevrolet Series OA / OB / OC / OD, Chevrolet Series P / Q, Chevrolet Series R, Chevrolet Series GD / GE / S, Chevrolet Series JD / JE / V, KD / KE / KF / WA / WB, GMC ADC-903, GMC HC-Series, GMC Blue Chip 550, GMC Series 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 (1960-1961), GMC Series 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 (1962), GMC Series 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 (1963), GMC Series 50 / 60 / 70 / 80, and Chevrolet/GMC C/M 90/9500 Long Hood). The Bison & General were both conventional rigs. Diesel engine choices included Caterpillar, Cummins and Detroit Diesel powerplants.

For some reason, the GMC version was more common than the Chevrolet version.

A GMC General with a double-bunk sleeper was featured in the 1980 movie, Smokey and the Bandit II.
