This page details the history of Autopedia.
First on Wikia[]
Autopedia was founded by Knightrez (currently known as Rayous) on January 23, 2010, on Wikia. The site grew slowly until May, when Coolow joined the site. After that, the amount of activity on the wiki surged, and it reached 600 articles in October, 2010. In November, 2010, Knightrez (now Rayous), upset about Wikia's new skin, moved the site to ShoutWiki.
The ShoutWiki days[]
After Autopedia moved to ShoutWiki, Hockeyben joined Autopedia, and Knightrez joined WikiCars under the user name Silver Knight, and began contributing there. After discussions with Red marquis, the superadmin of Wikicars, it was decided that Wikicars would merge with Autopedia. After nearly three months of manual copying of pages/images/templates, the whole ShoutWiki site crashed on March 14th, 2011. The entire site was down until May 2, 2011, and all wikis were recovered, except 2, Autopedia being one of them. Then, Autopedia was thrown into a state of chaos, and it was unknown what would happen. There was then a possibility of ShoutWiki writing an importing script, to move everything over from Wikicars. The Autopedia community's hopes were dashed on June 6, 2011, when ShoutWiki stated that they were unable to write the script due to the outdated software on Wikicars.
Reasons why Wikicars moved to Autopedia
- The Site was using an outdated MediaWiki
- The owner (Internet Brands) blocked the top 2 administrators and stripped their rights without any warnings.
- The spam BOTs there are obviously out of control, but Internet Brands certainly doesn't care.
You can still visit Wikicars today, but just to let you know, it's a spam wasteland that has been left to die by Internet Brands.
Move to Wikkii[]
On June 19, 2011, Hockeyben moved Autopedia to Wikkii. The site contained 700 articles from the Wikia Autopedia, and the community began working again. All work on Wikkii basically ceased on July 4th, 2011, after Hockeyben contacted Wikia about the possibility of writing the same importing script that ShoutWiki was unable to perform. The Wikkii site has since been deleted
Return to Wikia[]
After discussions with Wikia Staff, it was decided that they would be able to import all of Red marquis', Silver Knight's, and TristanT's edits. Autopedia was again forced to wait for almost 2 months, until September 2, 2011, when everything done by those three users on Wikicars (4,500 pages, and 26,000 images), was imported. Today, Autopedia contains 12,553 articles.
