Autódromo Internacional Ayrton Senna (Goiânia)

The Autódromo Internacional Ayrton Senna is a racetrack that opened in October 1974 in the city of Goiânia. With a modern circuit is considered a stroke of extreme safety. With a capacity of 100 thousand people, motoring and motorcycling events, the circuit is used to promote concerts, festivals and events. One of the key moments of the race track was the dispute between bikers Eddie Lawson and Kevin Schwantz valid proof in world championship motorcycle racing in categories 250 and 500 cc in 1988. There were also editions in 1987 and 1989.

Possible Demolition

In 2011 the idea was proposed to sell the speedway area in order to build a new one in Senador Canedo (Goiânia metropolitan region). But the proposal did not go ahead due to a number of issues, such as the family of the donor of the original circuit, threatened to regain possession of the property in court, since the assignment agreement, signed in the 70s, included a requirement of use of the site for public purposes, and society itself goiana claiming that the only purpose of the project was to stimulate the speculation in the region. Then, before a cloud of uncertainty over the sale area, few buyers proved really interested in buying the property. In August 2012, the Governor Marconi Perillo alongside Felipe Massa authorized the commencement of renovation works, and no longer for sale, the current Autódromo Internacional Ayrton Senna Goiânia.

Localization

The racecourse was placed in the southeast of Goiania purposely to avoid problems such as excessive noise coming from the events that might disturb the residents of the city. But due to lack of a master plan, which is only now being deployed in the capital, real estate speculation became vicinity of the site for upscale condominiums causing conflicts between residents and event promoters. Nowadays receives events like Formula Truck, KM Arrancada,  Goiano de Motovelocidade and the Campeonato Centro-Oeste de Marcas e Pilotos.
