1979 Alfa Romeo Formula One Race Car

The Alfa Romeo Formula One Racing Team, was a top ranked Formula One Racing Team from 1950 - 1988.

History[]

The Alfa Romeo Racing Team won the inaugural Formula One Championship with an Alfa Romeo 158 Supercharger driven by Nino Farina. In 1951, Juan Manuel Fangio won the champinship driving an Alfetta 159 Supercharger. The Alfa Romeo Racing Team did not participate in the 1961 - 1979 Formula One seasons but did supply multiple engines to low ranked teams. In 1980, Alfa Romeo Racing Team returned after the engines proved that they were powerful. The team though had a rough start and did not get back up to speed until 1980. Everything was going well until their star driver, Patrick Depailler, was killed in a 1980 Grand Prix event. After three more rough seasons, Alfa Romeo has pulled out of Formula One and has not returned since.
