The Acura TLX is a mid-size sedan manufactured by Acura, the luxury division of Honda. The prototype vehicle was unveiled at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in January.
The TLX replaced both the TL and TSX in Acura's lineup. Its exterior dimensions make it larger than the TSX but smaller than the fourth generation TL.
First generation (UB1/UB2/UB3/UB4; 2015)[]
Two powertrain options are available. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine with direct injection was offered with front-wheel drive only, mated to a dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel steering (P-AWS). This model's chassis code is UB1 (after-Rover 16/50 4-door saloon, Rover 16 P2 4-door 6-light saloon, Rover P3 4-door 6-light saloon, Rover P4 75 4-door saloon, Rover P4 60 4-door saloon, Rover P4 90 4-door saloon, Rover P4 75 Mark II 4-door saloon, Rover P4 105R/105S 4-door saloon, Rover P5 Mark I 4-door saloon, Rover P6 Series 2000 4-door saloon, Rover P6 Series 3500 4-door saloon, Rover P6 Series 2200 4-door saloon, Rover SD1, Honda Quint, 1985–1989 Honda Integra Sedan, 1990–1993 Honda Integra Sedan, 1993–2001 Honda Integra Sedan, 2003-2005 Acura TSX Sedan, 2006-2008 Acura TSX Sedan, 2008-2010 Acura TSX Sedan, and 2011-2014 Acura TSX Sedan)/(after-1921-1926 Morris Oxford Bullnose 4-door sedan, 1926–1930 Morris Oxford Flatnose 4-door saloon, Morris Major 4 door saloon (1931-1932), Morris Ten 4-door 6-light saloon, Morris Ten Four 4-door 6-light saloon, Morris Ten Six 4-door saloon, Morris Ten series II 4-door saloon, Morris Ten series III 4-door saloon, Morris Ten series M 4-door saloon, Morris Oxford MO 4-door saloon, Morris Oxford Series II 4-door saloon, Morris Oxford Series III 4-door saloon, Morris Oxford Farina 4-door saloon, Honda 1300 4-door sedan, Honda Accord (SJ/SM) 4-door sedan, Honda Vigor (AD), Honda Vigor (CA1-CA2-CA3), Honda Vigor (CB5/CC2 & CC3), Acura TL (1995-1998), 1999-2001 Acura TL, 2002-2003 Acura TL, 2004-2006 Acura TL, 2007-2008 Acura TL, 2009-2011 Acura TL, and 2011-2014 Acura TL). The Honda designed dual clutch transmission is the first to use a torque converter, which absorbs transmission gear shift shock, thus reducing NVH. The engine is rated at 206 hp (154 kW; 209 PS) with an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 24 mpg‑US(9.8 L/100 km; 29 mpg‑imp)/35 mpg‑US(6.7 L/100 km; 42 mpg‑imp)/28 mpg‑US(8.4 L/100 km; 34 mpg‑imp) (city/highway/combined) compared to 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg‑imp)/31 mpg‑US (7.6 L/100 km; 37 mpg‑imp)/26 mpg‑US (9.0 L/100 km; 31 mpg‑imp) (city/highway/combined) from the previous TSX. Honda estimates that the six-cylinder model is 1.5 seconds faster from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 km/h).
A 3.5-liter direct injected SOHC VTEC V-6 with cylinder deactivation (VCM) is mated to Honda's first time use of a 9-speed automatic transmission (sourced from ZF), available with either P-AWS or all-wheel drive (SH-AWD). The SH-AWD system uses hydraulic clutches instead of the electromagnetic clutch packs found on the previous TL which significantly cuts weight, size and cost. The engine is rated at 290 hp (216 kW; 294 PS) and front-wheel drive models deliver 21 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 25 mpg‑imp)/34 mpg‑US (6.9 L/100 km; 41 mpg‑imp)/25 mpg‑US (9.4 L/100 km; 30 mpg‑imp) (city/highway/combined) while all-wheel drive models are rated at 21 mpg‑US(11 L/100 km; 25 mpg‑imp)/31 mpg‑US(7.6 L/100 km; 37 mpg‑imp)/25 mpg‑US(9.4 L/100 km; 30 mpg‑imp). Model codes are UB2 for the front-wheel drive and UB3 for the SH-AWD, which comes standard with a "Technology Package". TLX models configured with the V6 engine lose nearly 150 lb (68 kg) compared to the FWD TL, and over 225 lb (102 kg) compared to the SH-AWD TL.
Overall length compared to the previous TL was reduced by 3.8 inches (97 mm) while the wheelbase maintains the same length. As with the ninth-generation Accord sedan to compete against the 2012-2015 Citroën C5 Sedan, Citroën DS5, 2012-2014 Chrysler 200 Sedan, 2014-2017 Chrysler 200 Sedan, Chevrolet Malibu Sedan (2013–2015), 2012-2014 Ford Mondeo Mk4 Sedan, Ford Fusion/Mondeo Sedan (2014-2017), Hyundai i40 Sedan, Hyundai Sonata YF Sedan, Kia Optima TF Sedan, Nissan Teana L33 Sedan, Nissan Altima L33 Sedan, 2013-2016 Opel Insignia A Sedan, Mazda6 Sedan (GJ1/GL), Peugeot 508 W23 Sedan, 2012-2015 Renault Laguna X91 Sedan, 2015-2017 Renault Talisman Saloon, Renault Latitude, Škoda Superb Typ 3T Saloon, Subaru Legacy Sedan (2012–2014), Subaru Legacy Sedan (2014-2017), Suzuki Kizashi Sedan, 2011-2015 Toyota Avensis Sedan, Toyota Camry (XV50) Sedan, Volkswagen Passat (B7) Sedan, Volkswagen Passat (B8) Sedan, and Volkswagen Passat (A32/A33) Sedan, the TLX loses the front double wishbone suspension of the TSX and TL in favor of a MacPherson strut arrangement, and loses the TL's all-aluminum front subframe in favor of a lower cost friction stir welded aluminum and steel piece.
To significantly cut down on interior noise, triple door seals are used as well as additional sound insulation.
