- The Benettons of Berger and Fabi were so dominant in this race that they were 40 seconds ahead of third-placed Prost after 12 laps. Fabi eventually took the lead from Berger for about 2-3 seconds at the Bosch-Kurve and the BMW engine in Fabi's Benetton failed right after he passed Berger, and Berger immediately re-took the lead.
