Notes[]
- Pole position: Ronnie Peterson - 1:34.8
- Fastest lap: Jackie Stewart - 1:35.3
- Jackie Stewart had a puncture early in the race. He came into the pits, and it took a minute to change tires. He came out in 20th place and started a charge where he climbed 16 places and finished 4th overall, which was enough to secure the World Driver's Championship. Emerson Fittipaldi's failure to win ensured that Stewart won his third Driver's Championship, with two races left.
Standings after the race[]

|
- Note: Only the top five positions are included for both sets of standings. Only the best 7 results from the first 8 races and the best 6 results from the last 7 races counted towards the Championship. Numbers without parentheses are Championship points; numbers in parentheses are total points scored.
